1991 : un été sans fin (never ending summer)

"1991 : un été sans fin" is an indie video game created by three old friends, in the context of an homemade game jam. After working together on the "Scientific Game Jam"(organized earlier this year by the cultural and scientific institution "Le Quai des Savoirs" in Toulouse, France)

the three decided to give the experience another go and start working on video game of their own. Trying to experience the short time restraint of a game jam, in a week, a little game was born.

Telling the tale of Charlie, a character who, as an adult with a mad genius energy, decide to send a robot of their fabrication to the past in 1991, to their younger self, to help young Charlie trick their Dad into thinking they still have a week of summer vacation left, so that Charlie can get more training in the arcade version of Street Fighter 2 and not be laughed at by their friends when the school days start.

It is a point and click game, with objects to collect and to interact with. The player will have to think of ways to make Dad believe they are one week earlier, so you can mess with the calendar, erase and rewrite the dates on the journal, pass for your dad on a call with his boss, and so on...

The idea was to really make the player in the mind of a child, with completely over the top ideas, that somehow seems to work out fine in the end.

The team was formed between a game designer, a developer and concept artist/illustrator.

Doing that much art in a small amount of time was a challenge but it was a rewarding experience in the end, learning to let go of certain things, and how to make visible choices to serve the game design and narration even in a short time.

The game will not be distributed as it is just a prototype for now, I will be sure to update this article if we end up actually make it to players online.
